Abstract

The inner coffin of Hori is a part of his coffin set that was found in Bab El-Gasus cache and is now on display at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo (JE 29619); it dates back to the Late 21st Dynasy. Hori is the son of the high priest of Amun, Menkheperre. This coffin set is considered to be one of the most important coffins from Bab El-Gasus for many reasons; for instance, it is the only coffin that consists of three coffins. The inner coffin depicts a composition of scenes related to the different Books of the Netherworld, which the study will highlight. These scenes are a narrative story of the journey of the sun god, which begins with his entering the Netherworld and ends with the rebirth of the sun in the new day, assuring the resurrection of the deceased.
